Union Catalog

A national initiative project begun in 1998, CALIS now has over five hundred member libraries across the country. Eventually the goal is to include all academic libraries in China in what will become the China Academic Digital Library & Information System (CADLIS).
The CALIS administrative headquarters are located at Beijing University, Beijing. Administratively,there are four national service centers, namely, the National Documents and Information Service Center for Science and Liberal Arts, for Engineering, for Agriculture, and for Medical Science. In addition, there are seven regional service centers plus and the Northeastern Region National Defense Document and Information Service Center.

  • Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (LCAS) Performs the functions of National Science Library. LCAS houses 5,200,000 printed items in the domains of the basic disciplines of natural science and high technology, which are the most comprehensive and systematic collections in China. Items that have been published in Denmark and all items found in Danish public & research libraries. As of September 2005, the database contains approximately 10.1 million items. Among other things, bibliotek.dk contains records of: books, periodicals, newspapers, music, sheet music, video tapes, CD-ROMs, talking books etc.,major articles published in newspapers and periodicals since 1945, and reviews published in newspapers and periodicals since 1990. FINLAND / SUOMI

Union Catalogs

  • $$/0 Linnea Union Catalogues:

Nearly all Finnish universities, all polytechnic libraries and all public libraries have a license to search the Linnea Union Catalogues, described below, in their local area networks. Some universities also allow remote access. Several special libraries have acquired a search license also. Access is based on IP-addresses. Therefore, searching the Linnea Catalogues in Finland is generally free of charge. If your connection is covered by a user license, it is also possible to access the Linnea Union Catalogues by sending a text message with a mobile phone.     • LINDA Yliopistokirjastojen yhteistietokanta /Union Catalogue of Finnish University Libraries

Also includes the records of the National Repository Library, the Library of Parliament, the Library of Statistics and Lahti Science Library. LINDA contains references on monographs, serials, cartographic materials, audiovisual materials, electronic resources, multimedia and archives. The serials references also include summary information on the holdings of all polytechnic libraries, all Finnish regional public libraries and 65 special libraries.

MANDA database was frozen in the beginning of year 2003. Includes the records of 20 regional public libraries, covering books, music, visual materials, cartographic materials etc.

In August, 2006, The Helsinki University Library, was renamed The National Library of Finland.

Catalog search:HELKA. A joint database of the Helsinki University libraries and the National Library of Finland. HELKA contains records for acquired books, serials and periodicals, with holdings.

Catalog of monographs, serials, maps, non-book material and computer records published or in other way produced in Finland. It also includes publications published outside Finland but with a Finnish author or related to Finland.

FRANCE

  • Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog KVK This well known mega union catalog that allows simultaneous searching of many of the world's national library and collective catalogs, as well as several bookseller's sites, also serves as Germany's own union catalog. The German component presents approximately 8 regional catalogs, a national union serials catalog, the catalog of the National Library, the Berlin State Library, the Technische Informationsbibliothek Universitätsbibliothek Hannover, and a national bibliography of 17th c. titles. Search each individual catalog or any combination.

Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (Frankfurt / Leipzig) German National Library. Known as the Deutsche Bibliothek until 2006, the German National Library is comprised of the combined collections of the Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig founded in 1912, and the Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt founded in 1947, to which the Deutsches Musikarchiv in Berlin has belonged since 1970. The German National Library currently holds some 13.2 million books in Leipzig, approx. 7.8 million in Frankfurt am Main and roughly 1.2 million in the Deutsches Musikarchiv.

WorldCat.org : about
Provides access to 76 million records, representing the holdings of more than 40,000 academic, public, and specialized libraries, mostly in the U.S. but also including hundreds of libraries worldwide.
Once a record is located in the database, the user can identify holding libraries according to proximity to the address provided by the user. For example, a person searching from France will see French locations for their title displayed before those in England or the U.S.
